Big News at the Derby Swim Club Pool!

Dear Parents & Swimmers,

We have a couple of EXCITING announcements to make!

As discussed in previous correspondence with our Fall session families, the off-season team has grown by leaps and bounds! This is not a bad problem to have, but it did create some overcrowding in the lanes. The fall team has 28 swimmers, with 2 more trying out this week. Coach Melissa has done an AMAZING job kicking of fall season, with help from Board Member and Aquatics Director, Darcie Parkhurst, but we knew we needed some more help.

We are very EXCITED to announce the addition of Assistant Coach Kaylyn Reeves to the Derby Swim Club staff. Kaylyn swam for 2 years for Derby High School, and 3 years for us, at Derby Swim Club. She has worked as a lifeguard for the past 3 summers at Rock River Rapids, and currently lifeguards at the Derby Rec Center. We look forward to watching her share her love and knowledge of swim with all of our swimmers, and hope everyone will give her a warm welcome!

In addition to adding an Assistant Coach to our staff, we will start offering Saturday morning practice on October 8th. We were hoping that this would give some of our swimmers missing out on Thursday’s a chance to get their second day in the pool each week, and that it may lessen the Tuesday night crowd. Swimmers may choose which two days of practice they will be attending, out of the three days offered. At this time, because of the feedback regarding how many will actually be able to attend on Saturday; there will be just one practice time offered, 8am-9:15 a.m., for all ages. Should Saturday attendance grow in the future, we will look in to splitting up practice times by age/skill level.

If you are able to switch to Thursday and Saturday practice times, that would help with the overcrowding on Tuesday, but we do understand everyone being on a set schedule. Please let us know if your chosen days change, and know that if your child misses one of his "normal" practice days, he/she can make up that day on the other day offered that week. Please keep in mind that swimmers should not be attending more than 2 practices a week.

For those families paying month to month, please remember that your October dues are due on October 1st. You may choose to pay Thursday night at practice or before practice on Tuesday, October 4th.

Thank you and please let me know if you have any questions.
